Fenrir is from Norse and Teutonic mythology, said to be the offspring of Loki and the giantess, Angrboda. So fierce was he that the gods deemed it necessary to bind him; however, he easily tore through the first two sets of fetters. Only the final set of magical chains - Gleipner, forged by the dwarves - was able to restrain him. Even then, the binding came with a price, for the god Týr lost his hand in the process.
At the time of Ragnarök, the Norse end of the world, it is said Fenrir will break free from his chains to ravage the world. He is destined to slay Odin, a myth that may or may not be carried into the game.
